Description: A rare vintage polished brass and copper large belt buckle by Betancourt, and attributed to Leopoldo and Enrique Betancourt. They worked for Los Castillos in Taxco, Mexico in the 1940s, going on to create their own atelier, as well as designing for Casa Maya. It features a large Jadeite central medallion in the form of a carved mask with two additional rondels on either side in a Mayan or Aztec design. This is a super example of vintage modern Mexican design and wearable art. The hallmark is “Betancourt” Hecho en Mexico, information from the Book of Mexican Hallmarks by Billie Hougart.
